My hair is also the same way. i always put alot of moose and hairspray on it after i get out of the shower. It looks nice. You don't have to straighten it because curls are something so beautiful that nooone should take for granted. I spent alot of time hating my hair but I've learned that people love it and I've realized that it truly is pretty to have curly hair. But anyway, after your hair has dried you also have the option of scrunching it so that it looks more natural and not so stiff. this is what works for my hair. Go to your hair stylist and ask to get your hair thinned. Then try to straigten it as much as you can because that always looks the prettiest and you can do more to your hair that way. But it's a hastle to straiten your thick hair everyday so wearing it half up and half down with straightened side bangs would be pretty also and not as much work.

I found through my personal experience ( true I am a guy) and from hair stylists and other women that letting your curls do their natural thing is the best way to go....I would suggest you cut some of the length off with the assistance of a pro and take it from there. You may find that you have a natural head of bouncy beautiful curls that perhaps requires nothing but a bit of spray.
